It's All Down Hill From Here
Well, its time to begin the third and and next to last chapter of the summer vacation experience.Chapter one is that first couple weeks when you just get out and summer feels so fresh and new. The freedom rushes through your psyche and you make all kinds of plans of how to not waste the ensuing break.Chapter two is when that fresh feeling wears off, and you realize that some (or most) of your plans won't pan out, but you settle into a relaxing routine that crescendo into the main event of the season, the Forth of July.Chapter three is when the holiday is over and things slow down. The freedom has become redundant, and you become more and more excited for a return to the life that was school.Three is an interesting phase because the people around you become irritating and predictable. The clouds of boredom block out the sun of vacation, and tentative plans for the next school year are formed. It's a limbo phase, really, trapped between the summer we're in and the challenges ahead. It's been called the dog days of summer by some. It's hot and boring. It takes more effort to have fun, and the soul becomes ragged. Freedom Overdose. That's what I'd call it. It's almost over, and yet it seems far away. The countdown has begun. Many new challenges lie ahead. Many new friends to be made and battles to be lost. When the dust of summer clears, the mountain of schoolwork will stand before us. Before to long, we shall enter the forth phase, when we set our plans for school and begin to carry them out. The dog days of summer mark the beginning of the end. The death of the old is upcoming, hard to accept, and yet welcome at the same time. The redunandancy of summer is drawing to a close. When August rolls around, there will be one phrase to describe it all.So long freedom, hello regimen.
