Lost
It's been four days since the Huskers lost their secon game of the year. Four days since all national championship hopes were dashed, and four days since I received a birthday present early. All around campus, footsteps are a little heavier. Frowns are a little more frequent. The once hopeful student body of foolish FANatics have realized once agains, that it's nopt their year. Is it wrong that I find this oddly satisfying? There's no feeling quite like mass depression over something trivial. It was a fucking game, and this one game was enough to shake UNL students to their very core. They pour over sports pages in various newspapers and magazines, looking for an answer, a scapegoat, an explanation. Anything. All they want to know is "Why did my team loose?" Were the fans not loud enough? Was the field to hot? Was the sun in their eyes? And as all this happens, I sit and I smile, because it does not matter. So fucking what if they lost? The world is still here. I've heard people out in the streets yelling about how pissed off they were. Screams late into the night of "Why god, why? What did I do wrong?" And it becomes obvious, at least to me what the problem is....These people have no sense of personal identity. They don't know who they are, so they base themselves on something arbitrary. Those guys are strong and have sex, let's idolize them. To bad this is one of the dumbest things imaginable. You are not your fucking football team! I see that not very many people understand this concept everytime I hear the phrase "What did you think of the game last (insert time here)" It's sad that people have this attitude, and yet we need it for our fucking economy. Oh sweet irony. The funny thing about the sport is the little effects it has on people. Kid see sports on TV, kid joins local sports team. Kid trains his ass off for a long time. Kid comes just within reaching distance of pro football, kid gets injured and becomes hella bitter. I don't like it much, but, ain't that America?
